Composite and Smart Materials Laboratory (CSML), University of Ioannina
The Composite and Smart Materials Laboratory (CSML) was established in 2007, as part of the Mechanics and NDE Division of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE), University of Ioannina (UOI). The mission of CSML is to provide education and research in the field of Advanced Composite Materials and Structures, with special emphasis in Non-Destructive Evaluation and Multiple Smart Functionalities. In the area of destructive evaluation, emphasis is given in the durability of composite materials (wear behavior, mechanical / thermomechanical characterization, environmental loading, etc.). Research activities include hierarchical composites and interfaces, biodegradable micro- and nano-composites, “smart” multi-functional materials and structures, as well as novel NDE and process monitoring techniques regarding the structural integrity of materials through thermal, optical and electrical stimulation / response of the interrogated structures. Since its foundation, CSML has published more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, garnering more than 2,400 citations, and has participated in a significant number of national and international collaborations. CSML has also attracted approximately M € 2 funding, almost in total (>97%) from competitive research programs and private collaborations.
Computer Systems Lab, University of Thessaly
The Computer Systems Lab (CSL) of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Thessaly (UTH) participates in the project through the computer systems research team. The lab is staffed by 3 faculty members and more than 10 PhD and postgraduate students of the Department. The lab conducts research and development in the field of computer systems with emphasis on the implementation and experimental evaluation of system prototypes that combine hardware and software, and has significant experience in programming languages and models, operating systems and execution environments, embedded systems, high-performance computing systems, distributed systems, mobile and pervasive computing systems as well as wireless sensor networks. CSL has participated with great success in many European and national research programs in the field of computer systems, has collaborated with various universities, research centers and companies in the field of computer technology, has experience in technical project management, and has coordinated innovative research projects at both national and European level.
GeoSense
GeoSense was established in 2002 and has as main activity the distribution of specialized products and services related to Geoinformatics, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS – drones), Global Positioning Systems (GPS / GNSS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Cartographic Data and Geodetic Applications. In particular, GeoSense through a network of experienced partners, consultants and experts, is active in the trade of Unmanned Aerial Systems (Drones), GPS / GNSS Receivers, Surveying Equipment, 3D Laser Scanners, Geo-radars, Thermographic Cameras, specialized technical software, specialized computer products, etc.. At the same time, GeoSense provides any kind of technical and educational support to all kinds of studies and projects related to its activities. Through the Research and Technology department, GeoSense develops applications and tools in all the above activities. The company’s human resources consist of people with deep knowledge of the subject, having postgraduate degrees and many years of professional experience. To complete its product range, the company has entered into partnerships with Greek and foreign companies.
PaEn Group
The company was created in 2007, under the name “Pantazis Energeiaki MEPE”, with the sole purpose of producing electricity from renewable sources. In the same year, it started the licensing procedures for the installation of two (2) Photovoltaic (PV) parks with a power of 100KW each in Peratis area of Zitsas municipality, Ioannina, whom he created in 2011, with the first one being connected in February and the other in August of the same year. In April 2014, it proceeded with the purchase of a third PV park, with a power of 74KW, installed at the company’s headquarters. Apart from the production of electricity-related operations, the company started in 2013 research and development activities. In 2015, it installed in the two PV parks, codenamed Peratis 1 and Peratis 3, a standard rainwater collection, storage and usage system. Finally, in December 2016, the company expanded its activities to wholesale of professional electrical machinery, wholesale of other machinery and equipment, rental and leasing of other machinery and equipment, and services for professional electronic equipment installation.
Κ-REN
K-REN was founded in 2007 with the aim of generating electricity from renewable energy sources. In 2008, its activities were expanded in the field of providing services for the construction and support of telecommunication infrastructures of pan-Hellenic providers regarding the networks of TELLAS and CyTA. In 2011, the company invested in the field of photovoltaics, developing its own parks as well as acquiring 50% of the company “K&P Energy”. In the same year, it expanded its research and development activities in the area of digital services, focused on the field of remote monitoring of PV parks. In 2012, a spin off company named “Neuron Energy Solutions” was founded and undertook the commercial exploitation of the company’s research activities. Since then, K-REN operates as an incubator of new ideas with the aim of developing innovative products, the most recent of which is autoinvoice.gr (private beta), an automated billing solution for electricity generation companies in the field of renewable sources.
